Keeping Your Sun Happy: Natal Sun Aspects
Let’s explore your natal Sun’s aspects—AKA what might make you shine a little brighter and feel a bit more like yourself. In Body Astrology, I spend a lot of time deconstructing Sun sign astrology. Sure, the Moon may govern our day-to-day bodily experience, but if the Sun is “sad” or “sick”, the Moon will reflect that too. Loving on your natal Sun is essential, but caring for it often transcends what we typically think of as self-care.
Grab your birth chart and find your Sun. Now, follow any lines you see to the other side. These lines represent aspects. They’re basically conversations between planets—just like people. Who is your Sun talking to? For some of us, the Sun may be bright and solo. For others, the Sun may be having one conversation. And for others, the Sun may be extremely busy like a cosmic social butterfly.
Read on to learn what your Sun needs to keep feeling bright. And as always, remember that astrology is vast. This is just a tasty snack. If you want to take this much deeper, come see me.
Sun-Moon Aspects
This aspect is also known as your natal Moon phase. Do you know what phase you were born under—new, crescent, quarter, full, something else? (An online calculator can help you out.) This aspect often speaks to your natural energy flow. Once you figure out your natal Moon phase, reference Body Astrology pages 40-48 for more information on what this Sun-Moon combo may need to feel supported.
Sun-Mercury Aspects
This Sun values connection, information & getting out and about. Whether this Sun is introverted or extroverted is beside the point—it still likes to feel a part of the hubbub. This Sun may feel a little clouded over if it’s not intellectually stimulated. Keep it shiny by learning something new, solving a puzzle, or simply taking yourself out on a people watching date.
Sun-Venus Aspects
This Sun yearns to connect with the beauty of life. “Lifelines” may include listening to inspiring music, savoring a piece of art, or simply wearing a little something special. Relationships also tend to be central to this Sun’s battery. Keep it humming by not only tending to your relationships with others, but by cultivating a deep sense of lovingkindness & compassion with yourself.
Sun-Mars Aspects
This Sun has got to be itself—period. Although it may not always be easy, asserting its identity is often a central story in in this Sun’s life. Sun-Mars people often feel revitalized by taking action. So if you’re feeling cloudy, take one step forward and see if your vision clears. A little adventure and friendly competition is definitely a recharge for this Sun.
Sun-Jupiter Aspects
This Sun wants to feel buoyant and free. It’s often encouraged by getting some perspective, so zoom out once in a while both mentally and physically. (Scenic overlook, anyone?) Sun-Jupiter may feel brightened by connecting to Source on a regular basis. It’s often a deeply spiritual aspect and needs to feel connected to a larger purpose or meaning. And humor is this Sun’s secret brightening ingredient—lots of laughter encouraged.
Sun-Saturn Aspects
This Sun’s rays are sustained by the nuts and bolts. It likes to feel supported by the environment and people surrounding it. Support your Sun by creating systems that make life a bit easier on yourself. Refined is often more for this Sun. If it doesn’t feel bright, just say no. Sun-Saturn people may also feel nourished by getting connected with their roots and personal history.
Sun-Uranus Aspects
I like to this of this Sun sort of like a strobe light. Never a dull moment here! Sun-Uranus feels brightened by changing it up, doing things backwards, or at least differently. It’s the classic free spirit and personal autonomy is an absolute must. If you’re feeling a little cloudy, that may be a clue that something is limiting your need for freedom.
Sun-Neptune Aspects
This Sun’s battery is often recharged by creative or mystical pursuits. Sun-Neptune people need space to dream. If it makes you feel like your heart is pleasantly soaring or floating, it’s probably Sun-Neptune self-care. (Sidenote: I’m a Sun-Neptune. If I’m not creating something, I feel a little off.) This Sun is pretty susceptible to “weather” and may need to prioritize alone time so that it can reconnect with its authentic nature.
Sun-Pluto Aspects
This Sun values the intensity of life. From the joys to the pain, Sun-Pluto people want to feel fully alive. But this doesn’t mean life has to be a rollercoaster (unless you want it to, of course). Get your Sun in touch with that raw emotion through music, dance, or a tearjerker movie. Sun-Pluto often reinvents itself a few times throughout life. Observing the cycles of nature, from death to rebirth and everything in between may be empowering.
