3 Ways to Use Astrology Dice

What’s cute, cheap, and always up for a good roll? Astrology dice! If an astrology chart overwhelms you (let’s be honest—they’re a lot), dice are a great option for getting the answers you need. As a pro astrologer, I usually consult a chart when I’m making an important decision. But I still like to roll the astro dice when I’m feeling frisky, or just want to fill in some fine details.

Astrology dice are affordable. (I think I got mine for $10—don’t remember where.) They’re adorable. And, my favorite, they’re tactile. There’s something very soothing about having a tool you can hold in your hands. Even if you’re not sure what all the symbols mean, it’s nice to feel the smooth edges and glyph grooves under your fingertips.

Most astrology dice come in a pack of three. One die for the planets, one for the zodiac signs, and one for the houses. You can roll them together or solo—it just depends on what you want to get clarity on.

Confession: I may follow the guidance I receive from the astrology dice, or completely trash it.

I’m a believer in personal authority. For me, the value in using any tool like this is noticing my response to the information it gives me. Do I have a strong reaction? And if so, what does that reaction tell me about my actual desires, motivations & needs surrounding this topic?

Here are three ways astrology dice can give you the insight you need with just a flick of the wrist.

How to use astrology dice to test your options

I’ve rolled the astrology dice to test between product ideas, mini launch dates, or even pricing. Let’s pretend you’re testing Date A versus Date B for a product release.

Each planet excels at different activities. But this is a blog post, not a book. So the basic rule of thumb is: go with the option that gets the most favorable planet. Which planets are favorable and unfavorable? Again, TMI for this post, but here’s a quick and dirty summary:

  • Favorable: Sun, Moon, Venus, Jupiter

  • More challenging: Mars, Saturn, (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto)

  • Plays both sides: Mercury

In our product release example, let’s pretend you rolled the Sun for Date A and rolled Saturn for Date B. I’d personally go with Date A. The Sun is all about visibility, and when you’re releasing a product, you usually want it to be seen. Saturn has lots of great qualities, including longevity and respect. But it also rules limitations and sometimes failure, so it wouldn’t be my first choice in this scenario.

How to use astrology dice as a study tool

If you’re studying astrology or even a pro who wants to keep your skills sharp, give those babies a roll for interpretation practice. It’s just like third grade when you had to use your vocabulary words in a sentence. For example…

(Rolling now. Come onnnn, big money, big money!)

I rolled: Moon / Scorpio / 11

Now, come up with three things a Scorpio Moon in the 11th house might signify in a birth chart:

  • I’m pretty quiet on social. But when I spill the tea, I SPILL IT. Cue rage-crying-mascara-running IG stories.

  • Me and my mom are besties. Sometimes it’s a lot. You wanna hang with me, you gotta hang with my mom.

  • I met all my friend at pole class.

  • When coworkers have issues, they flock to me like a murder of crows. Bring me all the drama.

Okay, so that’s four because I got carried away. And yes, these are a bit tongue-in-cheek, but you get my point. Have fun!

How to use astrology dice as a daily spiritual practice

Many people like to pull an oracle or Tarot card as part of their morning practice. You can use astrology dice in the same way. Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

  • Question: Where’s the action today?

  • Answer: Roll the planet die

For example, if you roll Mercury, communication in all forms might be the theme. On a Mercury day, you might find yourself running errands, seeing everyone and their brother at the grocery store, or sending a lot of texts and emails.

  • Question: What tools or strategies can I rely on today?

  • Answer: Roll the zodiac sign die

Zodiac signs describe the elements and tools we have within reach. For example, if you roll Sagittarius (mutable fire AKA hot and on-the-go!), you might need to start thinking outside of the box. What will shake things up and give you some perspective? Your favorite nature overlook? A (disco) dance break?

  • Question: What area of life needs my attention today?

  • Answer: Roll the house die

The twelve houses represent specific areas of life, ranging from relationships to money and everything in between. For example, if you roll the 2nd house (livelihood, money, possessions), maybe you could catch up on your banking, do a little organizing, or finally buy that thing you’ve been needing.

There’s a million more ways to shake those astrology dice, but this should get you started. I hope you roll a cosmic Yahtzee!
